Haiku in the Great Lakes State
Michigan is rich in the arts, and poety in particular. The beauty of our state, and it's long history of inspiring writers and poets is well established. Our state also provides a nourishing environment for any artist to work and thrive.
Our history in the writing of haiku and other Japanese forms is long, and we want to promote and feature the poetry and the poets who have created this legacy. From our education alcampuses, to our forests, streams, rivers, and the wonderful Great Lakes, Michigan is a state full of inspiration. Our connection to nature belies the common perception, outsdie the state, as a state filled with manufacturing smokstacks. in point of fact, we are a collection of some of the largest State, Federal, as well as local parks and forests. The Upper Pennensula that is, in many ways, a compelling environmental experiment that is on going, and stunning in all seasons.
Those of us who live here or have spent time here, know the beauty and calm wonder of our State. We welcome you to enjoy it in person, or simply by sharing our State in our poetry. Welcome!
